Nottingham Organic Gardeners

Welcome to Nottingham Organic Gardeners.

We are a voluntary organisation, a friendly group in Nottingham, open to all.

We aim to promote organic and sustainable gardening, and a more localised food culture.

We have an Organic Demonstration Garden at Whitemoor Allotments in Nottingham and hold regular talks, workshops and events with an organic theme.

Please note we cannot endorse or recommend specific gardening suppliers, businesses or growers.

Summer Evening Walk - The Devil's Elbow and Diamond Wood

A lovely walk through historic Sutton Bonington and along the River Soar/Grand Union Canal, plus we hope to visit Diamond Wood, a new native woodland and meadows planted in 2012 by Nottingham University staff and students and the local community.

4 ½ miles, level ground, some stiles. May be muddy so wear suitable shoes/boots, and nettles have had a good year so shorts-wearers beware! And need I mention mozzie repellent…?

Meeting at Sutton Bonington church 6:45 for a prompt start at 7pm. There’s a small car park and roadside parking.

We’ll be heading north along the footpath off Soar Lane to the Soar at Station Road, then following the river west and south to Devil’s Elbow, a tight bend in the river. Just after here, if the dusk has not overtaken us, we can explore Diamond Wood, maybe spotting some bats and moths! Return to the village via Pasture Lane. There are shorter option for if the weather’s not good, or if we have been having a particularly social amble!

Several pubs in village for afterwards is wished – the Kings Head and the Anchor Inn both listed by Camra. (NB The King’s Head does not serve food on Tuesday).

Buses: not many - University Hopper Bus 901 is limited in holidays; Skylink Nottingham will get you there but not back! Car-sharing an option, please do ask.
