Potato Day 2021
Yes, we can! But not quite as we know it in pre-pandemic times. We're working hard to get Nottingham growers a wide choice of seed potatoes, but like many other small organizations, we're feeling our way and prioritizing the safety of all concerned. Thank you for your patience as we set up this new version of our favourite annual event, and as always, thank you for supporting us and buying your tubers from us. It means a lot to us, and also to our Scottish suppliers, especially Skea, our organic supplier, a small Soil Association-certified grower near Dundee.
Key information
How do I buy my seed potatoes? We've set up a web shop – here Feel free to look around - the shop isn't open yet but you can see all the varieties.
What if I can't use a web shop? You might consider asking a friend or relative to do it on your behalf, but if that isn't possible, please email us with your phone number. We'll call you back and sort it out with you over the phone.
When can I get ordering? We will open the web shop when we've received all the potatoes, checked and re-bagged them in 6's. So the shop will probably be open in the last week of January. We'll give you 24 hrs notice of the opening time so you can get ready.
And then? We will deliver to Nottingham city areas and immediate surrounds such as Arnold, Beeston, Bridgford for a charge of £1.50. We will inform you of the day and time range to expect delivery.
What if I live further away? Please email contact@nogs.info and we'll discuss options, bearing in mind the covid-19 guidance at the time.
How much are the tubers? Same price as last year, 6 for £1 – the only difference is that you have to buy in multiples of 6 for each variety. This allows us to manage the web shop and picking process. If your space is very limited why not swap some with a friend later?
What varieties do you have? We've got 29 varieties – mainly old favourites on our list with two new to us – Jazzy and Mayan Rose. See the full list here or by checking the web shop. As always we've covered a wide range of varieties for different purposes.
What about onion and shallot sets? Yes, we have those too – Sturon, Red Baron and Golden Gourmet.
It's my first time growing potatoes – I need help! Brilliant, welcome to our community! We love growing our own food and hope you will too. Check out our website for advice and links as well as suggestions of which varieties to try for which purposes (e.g., container growing, or for a specific culinary purpose etc). Feel free to email questions to the group (contact@nogs.info) or reach out on our social media e.g., our Facebook page or our Facebook group – we will do our best to answer your questions.
Thanks,
The NOGs Potato Day Team
